What was the first responsibility your parents trusted you with when you were a child? For many of us, we had household chores that were our way of participating in family duties? Do you remember what your first chore was? I had to call my dad, but apparently my first chore was taking the trash cans to the curb and returning the to the side of the house. Interestingly, this is the same responsibility my wife and I have given to our son. Trash duty seems to be a fairly common chore for young boys. Much like babysitting can be for young girls. In our reading today, that is exactly what Jochebed, Miriam's mother, asks her to do. They are living in a time of horrible oppression and the Pharaoh declared that all male Hebrew babies should be killed. In order to try and save Him, Jochebed built a waterproof basket and placed Moses in it. Miriam was charged with the responsibility to watch over Moses from a distance. This was an extreme babysitting moment for sure. While this single scene may not seem like much, a young girl babysitting her baby bother seems normal, God is preparing things for Miriam to be a powerful part of the deliverance of Israel from Egypt. That brings up a great point. How many times do we mistakenly assume God is not working because we're only looking at the setup, not the miracle? No one would likely have thought twice about a young girl by the riverside, even if they didn't know about her baby brother in his own personal floating ark. But, in this simple scene, God is working in this young girl, placing her in the the right time to be a part of His master plan for His people.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, please help me to see with wider eyes what You are doing in and around me. I know You have a plan and I want to be a part of it. I also know I may not always understand what you are doing. Lord, give me the faith to follow. Amen.

Reflection:
What is God doing in your life this week?
Is He actively moving?

Is He actively moving?
Is He setting things up?
