The Master Returned

Matthew 25:19

I have a confession to make. I am NOT a very good housekeeper. My fun-loving ADHD self gets easily distracted and it usually ends up something like this... My wife is going to be “out” doing things for say four hours. We talked about me having three things done around the house when she returns. A normal person (no, I do not consider myself to be in that category) would begin working on one of the tasks, complete it, and then work on the next. But, not me! No, I will make myself a bowl of cereal, watch Netflix for the first three hours that she is gone and then get up, and run around like a crazy person to get the cleaning done. Without faith, when I do this, my wife always comes home early from her shopping trip and I’m “caught” not having my work done and time ran out. Why did I just share that embarrassing story with you? Because I think it helps to illustrate the verse we’re reading today. “After a long time the Master... returned.” The breadth of time in Jesus parable happens while the Master is away on His journey. Or, to put it another way... the servants were to be working in the Master’s absence. There is a clear expectation on the part of the Master when He returns that there will have been work done while He was away. This is also so true for us today. We need to be “about the Savior’s business” more than our own agendas.

Prayer:
Holy Spirit, please help me to stay focused on Your Will and direction for my life and to have the faith to follow with boldness and excitement. Help me to do well until Your return. Amen.

Reflection:
In what ways have you been about the Savior’s business recently?
How can you improve?
