Genesis 37:2-11
The epic story of Joseph is one of the most beloved stories of the Old Testament. This week, we will be examining the courageous faith Joseph had. In our reading today, we see the very beginning of the story. Joseph receives two dreams from the Lord. It is important to remember that both of the dreams come from God. We may be able to debate whether Joseph did a gracious job of sharing the dreams with his brother and then with his parents, but what is not up for dispute is the source of Joseph's dreams. Neither audience, when hearing the dreams was very receptive, but they all understood exactly what the dreams meant! This reveals a good, but challenging truth. Is it possible to hear from God, share exactly what He said to you, and still experience rejection from those who do not want to hear what God has revealed? Yes, yes it is. The beginning of Joseph's story shows us it is possible to hear Godly clearly, receive it gladly, repeat it correctly, and experience rejection from those who love us most. This is a difficult truth to accept, but it is none the less valid. In our pursuit to hear the voice of the Lord, we must also be prepared to hear the rejection that can come from those who are not rejecting us as much as the truth that God Himself has revealed. This is a powerful distinction that must be made clear. If, like Joseph, you receive a revelation from the Lord and others reject you because what the Lord has said... take heart, you are in good company.
Prayer:
Holy God, I believe You are the God who still speaks today. I know that You speak through Your written Word and through the Spirit You sent us. Speak to me Lord, I am ready to listen and obey. Amen.
Reflection:
What was the last thing the Lord spoke to you?
If you can't remember or haven't heard from Him, ask Him to speak to You.
Then, seek Him in prayer and in the Word.
