“Different Yields”

Matthew 13:3-8, 18-23

As we round out our week together, we now will take a look at the final group of soils that the Savior mentions... the good soil On this soil, the seed that was scattered was able to take root and grow. It was not hindered by the rocky places beneath the surface or the thorns above the ground. This soil grew as it was intended to and it allowed the potentiality of the life within the seed to be realized. One thing that stands out to me about this parable is that both the rocky place and the thorny places had growth, but no fruit. It’s only the good soil that ultimately yielded fruit for the farmer. This is the first big lesson I hope we will all be able to take from this story. You can absolutely have the appearance of growth and still be robbed of any real fruitfulness. Secondly, I mentioned earlier that I believe the good soil is not just one area but several because it produced three different yields. This also reminds me that we may be in the same churches together, studying the same Scriptures together and yet still will not produce the same amount of fruit. This is not our fault and should not be held against us, this is by God’s design. The seed that is His message should be planted in our mind, take root in our hearts, and bear fruit in our lives... but there is no good reason to compare to each other, because the fruit is always up to God! If you’re not bearing fruit at all, then it’s time to step up, take a hard look at yourself and start digging. If you are following Christ and have the beginnings of fruit in your life, don’t give up, keep going, and you will bear the kind of fruit God has called you to.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me to be fruitful in my life. I want to reflect Your love, joy, peace, and patience to those around me and introduce them to the Savior who loves them. Help me to be fruitful. Amen.

Reflection:
In what areas of your life are you being fruitful?
In what areas are you not?
