Jeremiah 29:11
God wants to bless His
children. If we as earthly parents want to bless our children, how much more
then would you think an all-knowing, all-loving Heavenly Father would want to
bless us? Now, as we look at our verse today, we must be careful not to fall
into a dangerous trap. In our passage, we see that Jeremiah is reassuring His
people that God Almighty has a plan for them, and that plan is for their
benefit or prosperity. As I said, we must be careful how we read and apply this
to our lives today. Those in the “prosperity” movement would have us believe
that this is a direct promise that God always wants to give us money, possessions,
or influence. This is not the correct view of this passage. The literal meaning
of the “good” or “prosperity” that is mentioned in this verse means a
completeness of health, welfare, and peace. It’s not monetary gain, but rather
being wholly satisfied.
Prayer: Holy God, I
love You and I trust You. I do believe that you want the best for me. While
that may not always mean monetary gain, I trust that you have a plan for me.
Help me to hear and follow You Lord. Amen.
Discussion/Reflection
Questions: Do you trust God that your life will have a complete sense of
health, welfare, and peace? Why or why not?
